2018 President’s Message
Greetings to all my Mountain Lake colleagues!!! Please mark your calendars for October 8th-10th to be in Hershey, Pennsylvania for our 2018 MLVMC conference. My name is Justin Mease and I am your elected 2018 MLVMC President. For those of you I haven’t met yet, I am a regional forester for PPL Electric Utilities in the Harrisburg region of Pennsylvania. I have been working for PPL for 15 years and in Vegetation Management for 12 of those. I am truly excited to be hosting this event in Hershey. As with previous conferences, we will start things off with our traditional golf scramble on Monday, October 8th at the Manada Golf Club. Our Tuesday agenda includes an afternoon Field Tour which will end at Troegs Brewery. We will be updating our website with additional conference information as it becomes available.
With all the activities we are planning for our October conference, we still have an entire spray season to manage through; which includes 6 more weeks of winter. As I ponder this, I can’t help but think of what that means for our MLVMC members. The responsibilities to manage vegetation are truly year round. Our DOT and Roadside members will continue to keep our roadways free of ice and snow. Some of us are currently braving the elements to apply dormant stem and basal treatments. Others are starting to prepare for bare ground applications. Before you know it, the leaves will be pushing and then foliar season will be here in full swing.
In 2017, we experienced 2 major hurricanes that slammed our southern states. Many of us, myself included, responded to provide assistance with the restoration efforts. Unfortunately, there were a few consequences. We again apologize for cancelling the 2017 conference and are hopeful that Mother Nature will be much kinder to us this fall. We have an excellent conference lined up for October 8th-10th and hope to see you in Hershey.
